The Ghost of Harriet Tubman

History comes alive!

On October 8 at 7:00 P.M., GAPP and Anderson Churches for Racial Unity(ACRU) present a performance of The Ghost of Harriet Tubman by Patricia Humphries Fann. The performance will take place in the Turpin High School Theater, 2650 Bartels Rd., in Anderson Township.

Patricia Humphries Fann is a journalist and educator from Newport Kentucky. She has been portraying Harriet Tubman in schools, churches and community gatherings for over 30 years. She has brought Harriet Tubman to life for audiences across the country and in England.

Harriet Tubman, who escaped from slavery in 1849 is known as a hero of the Underground Railroad. She made at least 13 missions to rescue scores of slaves and lead them north. She was also an abolitionist, a cook and nurse during the Civil War, and a spy for the Union Army. After the Civil War she worked alongside Susan B. Anthony and other activists for women’s suffrage. Although she died in 1913, she will return to tell us her story through the dramatic portrayal by a costumed Humphries Fann, and celebrate taking the place of Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.

The event is free and open to the public. It is ideal for students of all ages, history buffs, and everyone who loves a good story!

GAPP and ACRU are co-sponsors of this exciting and educational event. GAPP has been partnering with ACRU since it was founded in 2015. ACRU aims to raise awareness of issues of racism and possible solutions, and to build relationships across the color line.
