Let’s enjoy community together AND use our voices to protect our right to vote!

Our voting rights are too precious to lose! Join us in writing postcards to protect our right to vote from unnecessary, harmful legislation. The League of Women Voters (LWV) and other Ohio and national organizations agree that the SAVE Acts in the US (S. 128) and Ohio (SB153) senates requiring proof of citizenship to vote are wholly unnecessary and threaten thousands of citizens’ access to vote. LWV materials show that “The SAVE Act would create one more barrier to the voting process, as many eligible voters do not have easy access to the necessary documents.” Women, military, students, senior citizens, and people of color stand to be the most effected. 

Ohio SB153, which has been passed in the Ohio House, will likely require in-person voter registration at a BMV or Board of Elections, ending voter registration drives. It will require an exact match of names on documents, including initials, and will make it challenging for women who have changed their name when they married. Students, military personnel, and those away from their city of birth will have additional difficulties. Under Ohio’s SAVE Act, if voters fail to respond to voter confirmation notices sent to them through the mail within 14 days of the second notice, they could face prosecution.

As citizens who cherish our right to vote, we have an opportunity to let our senators know how we feel. And, as we gather together, we lighten the load of a worrisome bill by working together, in community. We can have fun as we exercise our rights!!!

This casual event provides an opportunity to exercise the right to contact our senators, and connects folks in a relaxed setting. Stay awhile and chat. Wandering Monsters serves great food!
